New on 75 or Less
- A ton of new stuff from Paul. He's got reviews of that crazy new DJ Green Lantern Beastie Boys re-re-remix, Luna's final disc AND Mos Def's long-awaited The New Danger.
- Leslie's got a review of Dogs Die In Hot Cars' Please Describe Yourself.
"Scott Stapp is an asshole!"
- I never thought I'd be happy to hear this much Dropkick Murphys. [music for robots has a nice writeup]
- The Malachi Constant is playing Lit Lounge in Manhattan tonight. Give 'em a listen here.
- So I had my exit interview last Friday and I've pretty much been on vacation for the past week. Lots of baseball, tons of sitting around in my pajamas with the cats, playing Metroid. It's been nice. I didn't even start my car for a week. Then, when I did, it died.
- I've missed some great links this week: Tron: The Rock Opera (starring Brendon Small), answering machine messages meant for the lead singer of Maroon 5 (Matt and I interviewed the band once, but they spent most of the time arguing about tofu), and the Super Mario Icecapades starring Jason Bateman, Alyssa Milano and Mr. Belvedere (which has unfortunately been taken down). Those links were stolen from Waxy.
- Also, The Spongebob Soundtrack e-card, featuring a bunch of streaming tracks.

New Releases for Rocktober 26th
John Peel passed away last night. He was 65.
-
Aloha - Here Comes Everyone You can find MP3s and info for both new Polyvinyl releases on the label's website - Aloha's new disc and Collections of Colonies of Bees' Customer. Both tracks are really enjoyable. I think Collections of Colonies of Bees wins in the band name department. Aloha gains points for touring New England though.
-
Anti-Flag - Death Of A Nation A DVD filled with lots and lots of live material.
-
Bright Eyes - Take It Easy (Love Nothing)
-
Cat Power - Speaking For Trees Shot by Mark Borthwick (who has a ton of cool photography stuff floating around), the film is two+ hours of Ms. Power playing live in the woods. The DVD also contains a few woodsy videos set to the music of You Are Free. A bonus CD contains "Willie Deadwilder" and some unreleased You Are Free sessions material. Top it all off with a nice little booklet created by Borthwick.
-
Nick Cave - Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus
-
The Nels Cline Singers - Giant Pin
-
Leonard Cohen - Dear Heather
-
Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine Vice Records' latest release. They've got American and Canadian websites. You can visit either one to find an MP3.
-
Depeche Mode - Remixes '81 to '04
-
Dogs Die In Hot Cars - Please Describe Yourself You can read Leslie's review on 75 or Less.
-
David Dondero - Live At The Hemlock
-
The Donnas - Gold Medal Stream a bunch of it here.
-
John Frusciante - Inside Of Emptiness He claimed he was releasing six discs in 2004. I didn't really believe him. I'm pretty sure this is like #5 though.
-
Fat Girl,
Secret Honor and
Eyes Without a Face Criterion Edition DVDs I was at Acme renting Meatballs last night and this Brown student would not shut up about Robert Altman "Blah blah, so-and-so's mom was in Altman films and she SO hates Robert Altman now... Personally, I think Altman blah blah blah..." Who are you trying to impress by yapping so loud girly? The creepy guy renting bad Ivan Reitman on VHS?
-
Futureheads Head on over to Catbirdseat, the official Futureheads fan site. He's got everything you'll need.
-
Gwar - War Party
-
Hall & Oates - Our Kind Of Soul
-
Bill Hicks Live Filmed a few years before he passed away.
-
Jay-Z and R. Kelly - Unfinished Business What an ominous album title. If you're Jay-Z, you're gonna want to persuade a convicted pervert to name the album something a little more upbeat like I've Finished My Business and Now It's Safe To Purchase My Album.
-
Roy Jones Jr. Presents: Body Head Bangerz Ever watch Roy Jones Jr. box? It's like a Nathan Lane Broadway appearance. I once watched him walk out dressed from head to toe like Liberace. He did this 20 minute musical routine about how he was going to knock everyone out. When he finished, he stepped into the ring and was so worn out from the opening number, the other guy just handed his ass to him.
Here's the Roy Jones/Young Bloodz video stream:

-
Michael Mcdonald - Motown Two Because one disc of covers just wasn't enough! Every time I lisen to Michael McDonald, my throat starts to hurt. Dave has coined the term "scrotal rock" because it is clear that the man sings from an area much lower and deeper than your average performer. It's sort of painful to listen to - in a good way.
-
Miracle Of 86 - Last Gasp A goodbye present.
-
Willie Nelson - It Always Will Be Willie Nelson and Norah Jones are dating.
-
Pavement - Crooked Rain Crooked Rain: La's Desert Origins This is at the top of my Christmas list. 49 tracks total (11 previously unheard). Matador's got the full, remastered tracklisting and a sample MP3.
-
Soledad Brothers - Voice Of Treason I could have sworn that the WBSR DJ told me they were playing Lupos. Maybe that was a dream. There are solid tour dates and an MP3 on the band's website.
-
Son, Ambulance - Key You can download a track on Saddle Creek. Quite a bit more realized than their old material.
-
U.N.K.L.E. - Never Never Land Like I said on Thursday, finally available in the US. Refer to former post for streams, guest appearances, etc.
