I changed the code around on the server the other day and forgot to repair the Celebrity Playlist Prediction Contest link. Sorry about that. Keep the entries coming. We've already gotten some good ones.

- Diplo's Florida totally, totally blew me away. I'm in love with the disc and I'm pretty sure you will be too. I believe it hits stores next week. His US tour with RJD2 kicks off on September 14th at one of my favorite venues in the Northeast.
Feelin' fine, but must be the wine
I wasn't going to update today. I had this fear that if I wrote a single extra line of code, I was going to have an aneurysm or some sort of stroke. Luckily, three links came through in my email and forced me to reconsider.
- Frank, I commend you. Just when I thought we were relegated to watching the crappy Windows Media of the new The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou trailer, he sends over the links to the Quicktime versions.

- Destroyer live on CBC3. An amazing, amazing, amazing live set. Courtesy of the prom queen.
- Bid to watch the Red Sox/Mariners with the Supersuckers from the VIP section at Safeco Field. Thank Mark for the link.

- Jason reviews Acoustics, the latest from Floater.
"We are being driven at mach speed by our passion"
- John Cale's HoboSapiens is out September 7th on Or Music. You can stream a good deal of the album on his website. The first single is "Things."
- Forget yesterday's link to the four Björk tracks. Here's the whole album. Oh, and here's another one of those Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin photos of her.

-
I know everyone in the interworld has already linked the Bill Simmons/Chuck Klosterman emails, but I'm gonna link them again anyway. They're that good.
"I don't care if "the world is catching up," or if Del Harris is coaching China, or if the best point guard in the NBA is often a Canadian who resembles the second guitar player from a Drive-By Trucker tribute band."
- Thank Good Man for sending over the attrocity of the day:
"On that note, you can assume that the sh-- we are writing now is f---ing powerful and very emotionally laced with reality..."
- Shawnna and Luda's "Shake Dat Shit" [asx] and Ciara's "Goodies" videos [ram] [asx] landed in my inbox a while ago and I forgot to link them.
- Via Ben:
Bruce Campbell, Lynda Carter and David Foley are going to be superhero teachers. The actors have joined the cast of "Sky High," a teen comedy that Mike Mitchell is directing and Andrew Gunn is producing. "Sky High" revolves around a high school for superpowered teens in a world where superheroes are an everyday occurrence. Campbell will play Coach Boomer, who tests students and decides whether they become a sidekick or a hero. Carter is set as the school's principal, while Foley will portray Mr. Boy, the teacher of sidekicks. Brigham Taylor and Louanne Brickhouse are the execs on the project, which is set to start Tuesday in Los Angeles. Gunnfilm's Ann Marie Sanderlin is executive producer.

New Releases for August 17th

Monday, August 16
- I can't tell if it's Paul's review or the album's cover that make me want to check out the new Ikara Colt disc.
I knew this girl when I was young
- LOW in Europe. Filmed entirely on 8mm. The audio sounds amazing. Not sure when it's out on DVD, but the run is limited to 1000 NTSC copies worldwide. You'd best get your pre-order on. Thank Mark for the link.
- Giant Step → Jukebox → Björk → Medula = four new tracks. Thank Jeremy.
- Secretly Canadian is reporting that Jason Molina and the Magnolia Electric crew will be playing tons and tons of Warren Zevon covers on their upcoming tour. Their double-disc live set, as well as their new studio project are due out in 2005. Songs: Ohia's Songs: Ohia, Axxess & Ace and The Lioness will be re-released on vinyl in October.
- The Big Ticket tracked down the new Ted Leo cover artwork. I really like it.
- Gavrilo Princip would be a great name for a Franz Ferdinand cover band.
- The fall RJD2/Diplo tour kicks off on September 16th at SPACE in Portland, Maine. Do you know what I would give for a job in Portland, Maine?
- In celebration of IKEA finally arriving in New England, here's the "Living Room" ad that Wes Anderson shot for them. Almost as painful to watch is his "Kitchen" spot. They were created back in 2002 by Crispin, Porter & Bogusky (who recently won a trillion awards for their Burger King work). You can watch Spike Jonze's IKEA lamp commercial on the firm's site.
- While we are disussing IKEA, many many congratulations are in order for Mr. EfP and Ms. Kandachu today. Which would you prefer as a wedding gift, a deli slicer or a smoker?
- This morning, I sent EfP a link to music (for robots) and told him to check out the Jimmy Cliff protest song. He agreed that it is, indeed, very bad ass and we discussed how MP3 bloggers seemingly get away with posting songs without record label repurcussion. Two hours later, we stumbled across "Warner's Tryst With Bloggers Hits Sour Note".
Two things I would like to mention on the music industry vs. weblogs thing:
- Record labels occasionally post things in chat rooms/discussion boards/comments sections, but it's pretty rare. If you've actually made it through wave after wave of music industry layoffs, you probably have better things to do with your time than read fan sites. Marketing companies, working on behalf of record labels, however, are rutheless (no offense guys, you're doing a hell of a job).
- I post music and links and news that have been sent to me by record labels (what's up kids?) and marketing companies (hey guys!) every single goddamn day. Mostly because I'm lazy and greedy, but also because most of our favorite bands happen to spend an enormous amount of money on advertising. Some of those advertising dollars are funneled into what we call "new media" - ie. half-assedly-run websites like slatch.
- Johnny Cash's life is up for sale on Sotheby's. Seeing June Carter's childhood shoes and autographed Elvis photo up for bid was one of the more depressing things I've seen in a while. Worth looking at for the photos though. The Nixon and Cash families side by side on page 12 is almost as cool as the Nixon/Elvis handshake photo. Thank WhatDoIKnow for that link.
